July 5th , 2010 – BIOTOOLS announces that an agreement has been reached with
the Paraná Molecular Biology Institute (IBMP), one of the main reference centers in
Brazil, to create an epidemiological surveillance network
• Signed agreement includes transfer technology and expects to set‐up as many as 26 laboratories throughout Brazil, meeting the requirements of the Brazilian Ministry of Health
Biotools has recently reached an agreement with IBMP to create an epidemiological surveillance network for the Brazilian Health System, including diagnostics and production technology transfer.
Biotools will transfer its proprietary technologies, and will provide reagents and equipment needed to
establish up to 26 laboratories until the end of agreement.
Biotools will also provide technical support for laboratory implementation as well as for their
maintenance, enabling product development and solutions meeting particularities of Brazilian and
South American epidemiology in general.
This agreement is part of the Strategic Plan of the Brazilian Health System for controlling health
spending, and to achieve technological independence.
This way Biotools consolidates its business in Brazil, as in September 2009 also reached an agreement
with the Brazilian Ministry of Health, implementing Biotools Technologies in a PCR‐based blood
screening program for HIV and Hepatitis C (HCV) in the Brazilian Public Health System.
