July 28th 2008 - Biotools Biomedical Laboratories and Spartan Bioscience collaborate to provide end-to-end real-time PCR Analysis
Biotools assays and reagents optimized for the Spartan DX™ DNA analyzer
Madrid, Spain, July XX, 2008 – Biotools Biomedical Laboratories, a Madrid-based biotechnology company today announced it has collaborated in the development of a comprehensive solution for infectious disease diagnosis with Spartan Bioscience Inc., a Canadian molecular diagnostics company that develops, manufactures, and markets DNA analyzers for on-demand applications.
Biotools will develop real-time PCR (polymerase chain reaction) reagents and kits (initially for infectious diseases such as tuberculosis and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) optimized to be run on the Spartan DXTM device, the first non-batch real-time analyzer. Now tests previously only available for large laboratories may be performed in a smaller clinical setting. In essence the "on demand" diagnostic solution provided by both companies provides health care providers with a quick, accurate and affordable diagnostic tool.
"The Spartan-Biotools assay is reliable and reproducible, with performance equaling conventional real-time Tuberculosis detection. Under this strategic partnership, both companies will now offer a complete solution (device + PCR Kit). The trans-Atlantic collaboration allows both companies to introduce their technology to different geographical and functional markets. Market opportunities for the collaboration include Europe, the United States, Canada and South America.
