    • 1. Non-chromatographic procedure for DNA polymerase and other thermostable enzymes purification
Manufacturing procedure of thermostable enzymes for multiple uses in the molecular biology field. These enzymes are thermostable "raw materials" of diagnostic kits. Advantages: Lower manufacturing cost of thermostable enzymes, allowing a reduced production time and lower productive investments that the traditional method.
    • 2. Stabilization method for Biomolecules and Complex reaction mixtures through gelification
Process which consists of stabilizing a mixture of reagents making a kit, maintaining its chemical properties and their activity without the elements that react with one another, being able to keep it at room temperature or cold reactive mixtures having to be retained by freezing. Advantages: Simple handling and use of reaction mixtures (kits); can work under the concept “one tube - one reaction" (saving time, no sample contamination), easy shipment and storage, and molecular testing in “doctor’s office".
    • 3. Genomic detection method using fluorescent labeled probes with application in medical diagnostic/prognosis (real time PCR)
LIONPROBES®: genomic detection and/or quantification of nucleic acids generating any measurable signal (for example. fluorescence). Advantages: Easy synthesis similar to TaqMan (patented by Roche). Independent procedure from the conventional real time probes. Fast detection of SNPs with high specificity due to the use of a proofreading polymerase and with applicability to any molecular biology assay
    • 4. Spotting buffers for application on nucleic acids and peptide/protein printing, setting new standards of lastability over most surfaces in the market.
A multiformat printing solution for both contact and inject printing ensuring the highest reproducibility and setting new standards of sample conservation for the printed products. Easy to handle and no special requirements for conservation. Stable through several independent round of spotting enables volume flexibility for preparation of the patterns to spot. Successfully tested against main spotting solutions proving enhanced lastability of the solubilised products.
    • 5. Other results from our R&D
Eight recombinant thermostable enzymes: Taq DNA polymerase, Tth DNA polymerase, Pfu DNA polymerase, Tth ligase, SSB protein, chaperonins, Tth DNA pol recombinant in Thermus thermophilus, and GrO HIV reverse-transcriptase. Cloning and expression systems of the developed recombinant thermostable enzymes in Escherichia coli and in Thermus thermophilus. Several proprietary procedures for the purification of nucleic acids from almost any biological material.

Partnership

Biotools collaborates with some of the main Research Centers and Hospitals in Spain for the development of its products. Also have agreements with Canadian and Chinese companies between others, for the distribution of equipment which fit with Biotools products, in order to offer worldwide customers with complete and integral solutions for the diagnosis.

  • Spartan BIO

Biotools Biomedical Laboratories, has collaborated in the development of a comprehensive solution for infectious disease diagnosis with Spartan Bioscience Inc., a Canadian molecular diagnostics company that develops, manufactures, and markets DNA analyzers for on-demand applications.

Biotools will develop real-time PCR (polymerase chain reaction) reagents and kits (initially for infectious diseases such as tuberculosis and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) optimized to be run on the Spartan DXTM device, the first non-batch real-time analyzer. Now tests previously only available for large laboratories may be performed in a smaller clinical setting.

In essence the "on demand" diagnostic solution provided by both companies provides health care providers with a quick, accurate and affordable diagnostic tool. "The Spartan-Biotools assay is reliable and reproducible, with performance equaling conventional real-time Tuberculosis detection.

The BIOTUB and MRSA tests are excellent choices for clinical laboratories wanting accurate diagnoses on an affordable and convenient platform," said Antonio Madejon, PhD., Instituto de Salud Carlos III, Madrid, Spain. “This strategic partnership between Biotools and Spartan represents our answer to what our customers have been asking for. DNA scientists have told us they want a holistic solution from one supplier and we have listened.

Our partnership with Biotools gives Spartan its business beachhead in Europe and other regions already serviced by Biotools,” said Mark Kershey, VP Corporate Development of Spartan Bioscience Inc. Under this strategic partnership, both companies will now offer a complete solution (device + PCR Kit). The trans-Atlantic collaboration allows both companies to introduce their technology to different geographical and functional markets. Market opportunities for the collaboration include Europe, the United States, Canada and South America.(www.spartanbio.com/)

  • CapitalBio

In 2007 Biotools and CapitalBio Corporation, a leading global microarray equipment and biochips manufacturer, entered into a strategic collaboration to join forces and capabilities in order to address unmet needs in the Asian and European market. technicalsupport@biotools.eu
